John Gale's previous collections, including Tartarus Press's A Damask Of The Dead and Passport Levant's Allurements of Cabochon garnered praise for their sophisticated and decadent prose styling, drawing comparisons with the works of Clark Ashton Smith.
Saraband of Sable presents eight of Gale's sumptuous strange tales; dreamlike at times, dense in their imagery yet delicate as dimming perfume.
Two pieces presented here are previously unpublished, one appeared in an edition of just twenty-five copies, a further two have never been collected, while the remainder were previously published in Passport Levant's very scarce Allurements of Cabochon.
